On the go to a few shows

Again, it has been a while since I last updated my recent finds. Since my last update, I have sold at 4 shows, and have been shopping at a few as well. Three times I have traveled to San Fran and the bay area to pick up tile and even a really really large Monterey dining table. As well, up in the foothills nearby I discovered a really nice original L&JG Stickley Morris chair. So many great finds here and there--so I will just put up photos of everything and just leave it at that. I will probably forget a few things, but I will just add them here later. Of course my favorite find is the Taylor double pheasant!! Thank you Rick!!!

Golden California Show

Well, ever since my last update, a little time has passed and many many things have come and gone. I have been to at least 4 shows, and my last great show was the Golden California Show down in Glendale on the 11th and 12th of October. This years show was really great and the mood was a good one on both days. The customers on both days seemed to be having a lot of fun shopping the show. There were so many great items it was unbelievable - from tile to art and Monterey furniture and everything in-between. ( I will have plenty of pics up of the whole show as soon as I get them here on my pc)

During setup, I had a chance to walk around and take a look at all of the great stuff!!  I had to take a look around Rick and Bill's space and I found a tile I have been looking for and did not have yet - a D&M round scenic tile depicting the Santa Barbara mission. It really is a sweet tile and is quite hard to find.

Of course, as Sunday morning came, I was out at the Rose Bowl shopping for some goodies and I ran across three items that I thought were kinda nice. One of the items was a nice size #5 Bauer Olla jar. These jars are hard to come by in this size and I did not even own one minute upon returning to the show--it flew out of my hands and was sold!

The next item was a really nice and rare Batchelder tile with what I think is a Masonic logo on it. I am not sure exactly, but I think that it is Masonic. I have never seen this before, and I was not even sure that it was Batchelder until I showed the tile to Scott Wells. He gladly shared his knowledge with me and we both agreed that it was really cool and rare tile.

The last thing that I found was the best wall pocket that I have ever owned. From everyone's opinion that I talked to, this wall pocket was made by Peters & Reed. What makes this piece so nice is the glaze and decorations. The glaze is a nice matte green color with very nice mottling all over. The decor looks to me to be a Phoenix bird with a band type decoration under it. The size is nice and the piece is MINT!!!  I really have no idea what this gem is worth, but for now it will be displayed on my wall. I you are interested in buying it, just drop me a line and let me know so when it is for sale I can get a hold of you   :-)

And of course, LAST BUT NOT LEAST is this great set of Taylor tiles that are encased in an old table top. Since the time I started to collect tile and chase after it, this has always been one of my favorite sets of tiles. To me, this scene is quintessential to California tile. It portrays a really fun scene in the cartoony type of way that makes California tile great. I think that it is for this reason that the San Jose tiles from Texas are so sought after and collected - They portray life in a fun and romantic kind of way, while at the same time showing real life scenes. I guess you could say they are fun!

As well as the Golden show, I have been here and there buying tile and all kinda of pottery and other stuff. I cant even remember it all and I am sure that I have forgotten some of the items---most of them I have pics of so I will once again just post them here for you all to see and enjoy. There have been a few tiles here and there as well as a table or two. Garden pottery and other items have come my way and I enjoy them all. If you ever see anything that you like in these pages, feel free to email me and ask if it is for sale--MOST items I find these days are for sale as I already have wayyyyy to much stuff and I do not need any more.

I was fortunate enough to get this great set of tiles done by Taylor--I do not think that they made too many of these sets as they rarely show up for sale. As you can see there is a little work that need be done to these, but none the less they are still a good find. This is another of my more favored sets of tiles. Thank you Ernesto!
