Hittin the local shops

The last few weeks I have been looking around in the local shops and also in Visalia and Bakersfield. I did see a few tables, but they were overpriced so I had to pass. I did find some great pottery items and while in Clovis I found a very very rare Bauer ringware pitcher. It is of a large size and great color. I had never seen this pitcher before, so I thought that it was rare. I bought it and I called my friends Mike and Netta who collect Bauer and I asked them about it. They said they had only seen one of these and it was NOT for sale! I had to travel to Bakersfield anyways, so I took it to them.

The pitcher is large and measures about 10-11 inches high--it would hold about a 1/2 gallon of liquid. Mike and I talked about why we thought that this pitcher is so rare. We decided that the handle being located at the top ended up being a design flaw--probably leading to broken tops and handles falling off. My guess is that they only made if for one year. This great piece now belongs to the Yaeck collection.

In Bakersfield, I found some interesting pottery items. I still have to do some research on the little handmade jug and the parrot tile. The tile could be Claycraft, or Calco. I am not sure yet, but I hope to find out.

-Cellini Craft-

When I was in Bakersfield, I picked up this Cellini set from Mike after he had finished doing some work on the tiles for me. This is a set that I had always wanted. I had never seen the D&M tiles that are in this.I picked up the tiles while I was shopping at the "Antique Revival" on Fair Oaks in Pasadena about 3 months ago.

This is the double bowl set and is VERY hard to find--not only that, but this set also has the original Pyrex inserts and the original spoons.

Alameda & Sacramento

The last two weeks I have been out with Tanya to the Alameda and the Sacramento outdoor antique faires. There were plenty of good buys at each show. I ended up selling at the Alameda show, and just doing some shopping at the Sacramento show. Alameda was full of good pottery and tile, but all I was able to bring home was this large Garden City dinner plate in orange. I did not have this color yet so I had to get it.

I also picked up this tile that I had purchased on ebay. The back of it is stamped "Franciscan" and I believe that the design is Gladding McBean. I am not sure how many tiles Franciscan actually produced, but this tile is of high quality and good execution in Cuerda Seca.

In Sacramento I actually found 3 loose tiles and one tile table. Two of the tiles are Tudor, and I have seen these before in a table, but I dont see this particular tile that often. It is not really the greatest tile in the world, but at 15 dollars for the pair I could not pass them up.

Now on the other hand, I found this great tile that has never been set. These tiles hardly ever turn up and they have always been a mystery as to who made them. I have seen about 4 or 5 patterns in these colors and execution style, but no one can seem to  pin down the maker. This tile has a buff clay body with dry lines that are burned and smudged a little. I have always thought that these tiles were made by Malibu. After seeing this tile, I believe that it was made by Malibu potteries.

This is the tile table that I found with tiles made by Taylor. I call these tables with tiles these colors "Halloween Tables"  They would look great with a pumpkin on them.

Last week I also found this curious vase. I see these in all sizes and color, but this one is the heaviest one I have seen to date. The vase also has a very different bottom than the rest of them that I have seen.

This is a very nice Garden City casserole with the original holder. I found this last week.
