In the last 3 weeks or so, I have been to the Alameda show, and to the Rose Bowl to sell my wares. As well, I made a few trips to places here and there where I ran across some nice finds. Ebay was also a source of some cool items. Alameda is one of my favorite places to sell and to buy. Tanya, my friend Gary, and I set up a booth to sell waaaayyy in the back. I stayed in my booth for most of the day, but on 3 occasions I went out to have a look. All 3 times that I went out, I came back with a tile table, and the last trip also netted me a really nice Rookwood tray with a fox on it. Tanya also found a really nice uranium orange Pacific footed bowl. To make things more interesting, there was a man there at the show who brought along a Geiger Counter. I told him to measure my tiles and the pottery I had put out for sale. The Orange glaze that had the best radiation reaction was my Catalina Island carafe with the Toyon Red glaze. YIKES!!
The Rose Bowl was this last weekend, and Gary went this time also to help me sell. He had never been to the show, or to Pasadena before so he had a great time. This time I really did not have a chance to go and shop, but as I was setting up the booth at 5am, my neighbor to the left had placed a tile on his table. I spotted it on accident and picked it up. I did not recognize it at first, but then I turned it over and it had half of a mark stamped on the back. The tile was a rare American Encaustic tile that came from a sample board and has never been set. The color and condition is amazing. These tiles are so very hard to come by and I will be keeping this one for my collection. Ebay seems to always be a source for finding good stuff. I know that I will not be selling there as frequently because of the bogus fee changes and the deceitful tactics that they have used. I do still look there for items that I can buy at a good price. These are a few of the items that I have purchased on ebay in the last 3-4 weeks:

I went to sell at the Alameda show this past weekend (April) and came up with these two items: One is a nice green Garden City pot that I will be using since it is cracked, and the other is what I believe to be a North Carolina pot at about 14 inches tall in a delft blue glaze. |
In the past few weeks I have been fortunate enough to run across some cool stuff. Here in Clovis, we had our street faire and I was up at 4 am looking with with good old flashlight and a cup of coffee. Early on, I found a nice tile table with Tudor tiles and I also found a nice little Garden City biscuit jar in a really small size. Garden City is one of my favorite potteries and when I find an unusual piece, I try to make a space for it somewhere. As well, I found a ringware chop plate in blue. My friend Brenda brought me this nice large Pacific vase to add to my collection Then this past week, as I was sitting down in my back yard getting ready to relax, my friend Gary called me up - He was at the Clovis Antique mall and he informed me that there was a nice tile table there. I jumped in the elky and cruised on over to the shop. When I saw the table he was talking about, I was very happy to say the least. This table was set with two really beautiful Malibu tiles in the best colors and glazes. The wood base itself was nice and it was a sofa table design for the ends of the couch. The underside was marked with e brass tag reading "Los Angeles Furniture Company". I knew right away that this was a great piece! Needless to say, this will be making its new home next to my couch. At the same time I was in the shop talking with a few other dealers, one of them asked me what a large RED oil jar would be worth. I told her what I thought and that was it--the next day that big old jar made its way to my shop when I was working and I of course bought it. The jar is a massive 26 inches high and has the best red glaze you could imagine! Here are a few photos of some other items that I had forgot to post in the past: |
